Substance Abuse
Drug or alcohol abuse affects millions of Americans every year. There are many types of treatment available to fit various lifestyles, backgrounds and needs, yet less than 25 percent of people with a substance use disorder receive care for their addiction.

Gambling Addiction
Individuals who struggle with a gambling addiction suffer from a compulsive need to engage in this risky behavior. They develop a physical dependency on the chemical reactions that take place in the brain when they gamble, and they will seek out gambling despite consequences including financial hardship and bankruptcy.

PTSD/Trauma
Living through traumatic experiences – including violence, disaster, neglect or abuse – can lead to long-term mental health symptoms like flashbacks, mood swings, anxiety and insomnia. Research shows that getting the right treatment for trauma is essential for reprocessing difficult memories and reprogramming responses to triggers.

Anxiety
Anxiety disorders occur when an individual experiences fear, panic or overwhelming worry in non-threatening situations. Symptoms can be paralyzing, as the distress produced by anxious responses prevents the affected individual from fully engaging with the world and interferes with their ability to live a fulfilling lifestyle.

Depression
Depression is among the most common mental health disorders, yet it is frequently misunderstood. Affected individuals experience sadness, hopelessness and guilt that drains them of their ability to feel happy, positive or excited. They may lack the motivation to leave the house, accomplish basic tasks or attend to self-care.

Attachment Issues
Attachment issues are typically found in individuals who did not have healthy examples of relationships in their childhood. These disorders are characterized by problematic moods and behaviors in interpersonal relationships and lead to problems with family members, friendships and romantic partners.

Adoption
Even in very loving adopted families, individuals may struggle with their sense of identity and belonging. Deeply rooted feelings of loss and loneliness may arise, which should be addressed with therapeutic interventions in order for the individual to find self-acceptance.

Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are frequently tied to concerns about body image, problematic relationships with food or other compulsive disorders. Individuals with eating disorders are at a high risk for a variety of health concerns and should receive medical and clinical attention as soon as a diagnosis is reached.

Sexual Acting Out
Sex addiction and compulsive sexual behaviors can cause significant problems ranging from losing a romantic relationship to damaging a professional reputation. In addition, compulsive sex often leads to risky and potentially harmful sexual behaviors. Sexual compulsions may be treated effectively with similar interventions to other addictions or compulsive disorders.

Bipolar Disorder
Individuals with bipolar disorder experience drastic shifts in mood, outlook and activity. This disorder has characteristic episodes: manic “highs” and depressive “lows” that may last hours, days, weeks or months. A combination of psychotherapies and medication may be recommended to manage symptoms and regulate mood.

ADD/ADHD
Attention disorders such as ADD and ADHD are known for their symptoms of hyperactivity, short attention span, inability to sit still and lack of impulse control. ADD/ADHD can affect adults as well as children and often interferes with an individual’s ability to succeed in everyday tasks and responsibilities.

Learning Disabilities
Learning disabilities vary widely in their symptoms, but the result is that the individual struggles to absorb and retain information at the same rate as their peers. These disabilities can make it difficult to succeed in school or the workplace, but can typically be managed or accommodated once identified.

Gaming and Other Addictions
Addictive behaviors like video and computer gaming are fueled by the feelings of reward and success that come with winning or completing a challenge. The individual will pursue their gaming habit despite damage to relationships and responsibilities, and will often neglect essential tasks such as hygiene and nutrition.

Failure to Launch
Moving through life comes with increasing responsibilities such as financial independence, time management and self-accountability. The pressure, indecision and stress of taking on these new responsibilities can be overwhelming and may cause an individual to become avoidant, withdrawn or regressive.
